Using my 3G vodafone modem, I connect to an SME Server (installed in gateway mode and running PPPoE over DSL) with the standard winxp VPN client and then try to remote control a desktop inside the network with VNC (Real VNC and TightVNC). Within 10 to 20 seconds of connecting to the desktop with VNC, the server throws a 'kernel panic not syncing' and hangs. This does not occur with RDP, SSH or Server-Manager access.
This event occurs on 7.2 , 7.2 upgrade to 7.3 and a fresh 7.3 install (both with raid and LVM and without raid or lvm). Memory chips tested fine with memtest86+.
Any ideas please?

Your best bet would be the bugtracker as you use default SME Server functionality. It would also help if you would not paraphrase the error but past evidence and log file output as is so we can judge all information, without a filter.

Thanks for the prompt reply Cactus.
Please can you specify which log files the bug team would be interested in as I am unsure of what information exactly would be relevant?

Apart fm the comment of cactus:
im my case I have installed the OVPN contrib on the SME server (7.2 and 7.3) and the GUI for OVPN on the PC (WinXP) in my home office.
To do a remote control of my PC located in the company office running under WinXP also, I have enabled the "remotedesktop".
On my home PC I am using remote access and via the OVPN tunnel I control my PC in the company office. Works perfect,
absolutely no problems.
Of course, my approach doesn't solve your problem - my intention was just to help by supplying a functional solution (and no need
to use Real VNC or tightVNC). I have tested this approach successfully also on 3G vodafone modem.

Open the bug report and you will be asked for specifics. Provide a detailed and complete report of the "kernel panic".

Thanks for the alternative Gerd. Will use it as second prize.
