Hi,
Why does DAR backup to a temp directory on the root filesystem?
What is the behaviour of DAR if there is no room or not enough room on the root filesystem?
Why doe DAR not write directly to the USB drive?

Hi, I did read that article and believe that I have setup my USB disk correctly. It is formatted with an ext3 filesystem and is mounted under /media/backup.
What problem in particular would you suggest that I look for?

Dar backup is not part of base SME server, so you are asking your questions in the wrong place.

Appears this thread pertains to e-smith-backup with dar. However I agree, he is asking in the wrong place as all bug reports should go in the bug tracker.

e-smith-backup with dar is not included in the SME 7.3 CD.

Yes, I am asking about the workstation backup via dar from the server manager. I thought this was now part of the base distribution?

No it's not part of the base. It's in development (beta) so for all bugs and potential bugs please report in the bug tracker. Thanks.

This rpm has moved from being a contrib, to testing stage for inclusion in the base install. The latest version of the rpm can be found in the smetest repo at http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/releases/7/smetest/i386/RPMS/ and the current version is e-smith-backup-1.15.0-14.el4.sme.noarch.rpm, although this may change due to bug fixes and improvements. Please report any bugs to bugzilla, perhaps using this bug number http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3538 or a new one if the problem is different.

One thing I found... you can NOT have the USBDISK mounted otherwise the backup will fail! Don't ask how I know :oops:
The backup program will mount and unmount the drive and if it cannot mount the drive (because it is already mounted) the backup will fail.
umount the usbdisk (or whatever name you gave it) and see if the backup runs normally.

Thanks all for your replies. I found that we had an earlier version installed and after installing the latest version (as per the instructions in the Wiki) it is now working.
I can also confirm that the backup will fail if the drive is already mounted. Perhaps as an improvement this behaviour could be changed so that it does not exit and fail if the drive is already mounted?

Please add New Feature Requests to the bugtracker against the contrib. This way it is most likely to be picked up by the contrib dev, as the dev will receive an automatic e-mail.
