There are several good backup solutions available as contribs (addons to the base install). The official page for all contribs is here:

http://wiki.contribs.org/Category:Contrib

I am sure you have found this by now for base install information:

http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:Administration_Manual

I have used both of these solutions for automated backups and either will work well:

http://wiki.contribs.org/Backup_with_dar
http://wiki.contribs.org/DAR2

One advantage of Backup_with_dar is that it will be part of the base install in SME 8. This means that the upgrades will work somewhat easier with it. DAR2 is Darrell May's work and I have used it for years. I personally prefer it but this may just be because I am used to the way it works.

shurely i gived small info to you to give me an appropriate idea

the situation is

SME SERVER 7.3 ,
ip 192.168.0.251
workgroup XXXXXX
and all the personal folders and I-BAY setted up

this server is for files server ecc. ecc..

WINDOWS 2003 SEVER R2
ip 192.168.0.252
workgroup  YYYYYYY
thet DOES the BACKUP for all , instead , ITSELF and the SME SERVER if i'm able to do IT
COBAIN BACKUP 8

but i tried to login from Win2003 with user ADMIN or ROOT but i'm not able to read USERS folders

now i have a BEBIAN SERVER and i allow the SERVER by IP address to access the folders, but it's a little EASY and not really professional.

I personally would use one of the backup solutions given above. I would create a share on the WINDOWS server and use one of the DAR backup options to push the backup file out to it. I would then set my WINDOWS backup system to pull the file created by the DAR backup onto my nightly backup set.

The downside of this is that you have to configure your backup two different places and watch the logs of both.

The advantage is that all the Linux file ownership and permissions will be preserved using the DAR backup system. You will also be using a community supported resource and if you have issues or trouble you can ask for help here and these two systems will survive updates applied to the SME server.

(I am sorry I can't help in Italian)

Moving this topic to the SME 7.x contribs forum, it is more appropriate there. Thanks!
