Title: general questions to virtual Domain.
Post by: Stefan Sabolowitsch on April 26, 2002, 06:18:28 PM
sorry, for my bad English

Hi.

I do not understand the principle with the virtual Domain.
I have e.g. two Domain. As I can say the USER1 email to SME receive from Domain1 and USER2 von Domain2.
As IMP differentiates the user whether you from Domain1 or Domain2 come.
Here the fundamental understanding is missing to me in addition. You can tell me about it somewhat.

thx :-)

Stefan

As far as SME is concerned, there is no user1@domain1 vs. user2@domain2.  There are only user1 and user2.  This is a necessary part of its serving as a windows file server.

This means that user1@domain1 is the same as user1@domain2.  This also means that when you log in to IMP, you only need to log in as user1 rather than user1@domain1.  You can set the return e-mail address in IMP.

Hope this answers your question.

Is it possible to run

name1@domain1
name1@domain2

this is a small intruction given to me by our dns hosting company

You will edit the following files to make it all work:

/etc/sendmail.cw or /etc/mail/sendmail.cw -> add newdomain.com.au
/etc/mail/virtuseraddress -> add @newdomain.com.au
uniquename@servername.com

You will need to restart sendmail -> /etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail restart
---

I have been unable so far to make this work, can anyone offer some advice?

Steve
