i see a strange thing happening
certain users are getting permissions to access to ibays that not to be accessed .
for example an ibay accountsdata is not to be accessed by programmers group.
the accountsdata ibay is set with accountsgroups permissions only
but still the person in programmers group can access the accountsdata.
checked the ibay permissions and it seems ok
checked the user to be belonging only to programmers group.
can any one point me as to how to trouble shoot this
Thanks in advance

just needed to mention that the server was restored by using rsync and copying relevent files using rsync
and then signal-event post upgrade
signal-event reboot.
after the restore all users have access to all ibays.
any pointers

Try this and see if it helps,
Go into the Information Bay Panel in server manager, Click on modify beside the IBAY name. Check that user access rights are correct. Even if you don't change anything click Save. This should reset ownership and rights for all the files in the Ibay.
If the above doesn't work it would seem to me that something is messed up with the users themselves.

and then signal-event post upgrade
this should be:
signal-event post-upgrade
note hyphen in post-upgrade

mercyh
already tried what you mentioned. did not help.
also there was a typo in the post. I actually ran signal-event post-upgrade.
any thing else that can be done..
thanks

Have you actually checked the ownership and rights to those ibay files?
You can use ls -l (this is lowercase L) or can see them in a gui with Winscp.

I am not sure how familiar you are with SME. The IBAYS live at /home/e-smith/files/ibays/ibay_name
-
The permissions in server-manager, for ibays is read=group write=group
in console prompt it is root:root for ibay and user:group for files in ibay.
The permissions seem ok.
anything else to look for.

You are over my head. I think you will need to open a bug report. If you used the Affa contrib to do your backup and restore I would report it against that.
