Title: lost user logins and mail after upgrade
Post by: oakberk on July 10, 2008, 01:27:36 AM
I finally upgraded the computer I use for my server.  (jumped from SME v 7.0 to 7.3)  After restoring the backup I can log in to webmail as admin but not as any other users.  No users are able to log in and I cannot reset passwords from the control panel.  The backup file size is identical so I am assuming that all the old emails and info are still present.  Is there a simple way to get these restored to operation?  I am a bit of a linux newb but have been able to use the SME on a few networks and this is the first problem I have had.
Thanks for any help.

As you are clearly told when you post on this forum:

Don't report problems here - Please report bugs and potential bugs in the bug tracker

He's asking a question.

He's asking a question.

Yes, and the only answer is to report the problem via the bug tracker, work with developers to investigate what went wrong, and only then can the problem be fixed.

And if you do so please post a referral here, for future users.

I am sorry for This may be silly question:

Why we do not have developers here helping what they can and they know?…

 regards

As the forums are cumbersome to track issues, where as the bugtracker is designed for issue tracking, on top off that the development team is very limited and has no tim to filter all bugs and issues from the forums as well as doing development.

Charlie is helping, it's just that you don't realise it.
If you look at the posts Charlie makes, he definitely does help out directly where he feels it is appropriate, but he will also suggest that you post a bug report when he considers that action is the most appropriate.

If Charlie is asking for/suggesting a bug report, then it's because he believes there may be a bug, and the best approach to take is to lodge a bug report.

How much better help than that do you want or expect.

It seems to me that we have quite a few of these upgrade/restore issues in the forums, however I don't know if any of them have resulted in bugs that can be tracked and fixed. For some reason it seems that most users think something like this "I will never have to use this again so I will get it working now and not spend any more time on it"

Folks,
This is open source. You are using a free resource. As far as I am concerned, as soon as you download a linux distro your responsibility is to improve that distro as much as you can. This is the price, it is not money but it has value. When I fix a problem for myself and walk away without documenting/cooperating with the developers I have not paid the price of using the Free Resource. Without this Open Source does not flourish and live and we are stuck with M$oft.

LONG LIVE OPEN SOURCE. (and it will if everybody does their part)
