Title: backup on local hard drive
Post by: panfilo81 on August 08, 2008, 05:10:30 PM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi, I'm going to configure sme server 7.3.

The pc with sme server 7.3 has two hard disk drives, one with sme server, and the other empty.
I'd like to make the backup of the server by remote on the empity hard disk, but by the browser i can make backup only on the remote hard drive,

how can i make a backup file on the empty hard disk on the server?

Are you sure the extra disk has not been raided. If the extra disk was on the machine when you did the install and you took the default options. That disk should be in Raid.

Last time I logged in as admin via ssh shell, actually today, I saw that there was a "new" function I have not seen before (but it still could have been there for a while.) This was something like "backup to usb".

Some time ago when it was not a standard function I actually made such a modification/function myself, and that worked very well. I guess the built in sme function will also work well.

Maybe it could be an idea to just install the extra hd in a usb hd drive box and just to use the standard bacup to usb (hd) function ? (As mentioned, I have never used the buildt in bacup to usb (hd) function, but I guess it will work.)

Actually these days, an 8 Gb memory stick could also do it ? (I also don't know if this will work, but I would believe it.)

Hmm .. the last post was interesting and important. When I did the USB backup solution, myself, it was only one ide disk and it was never a problem.

Maybe the mentioned PC can be a part of the problem:
Configuration:
2 x 500 GB Sata drives running RAID1
