Title: SME Licensing
Post by: EmyrB on August 20, 2008, 11:09:45 AM
Hi All,

I have been searching the wiki and these forums, but I cannot find anything on SME Server's licensing terms. I have a customer who is interested in cutting the cost of his IT. I can get good quality server hardware quite cheaply for him, but the cost of Microsoft server software is what is crippling him.

Basically, the customer has 20 users that need to be catered for. I have used SME Server in the past but usually for less than 5 users, so I was wondering if SME is like Clark Connect server where the community edition only supports up to 10 users, any more and you need to pay. Is this the same with SME Server?

Cheers in advance

Hi

No! SME is free for any amount of users... just limited by your hardware.
No gotchas here... just a STRONG community driven software!

Go into Server-Manager, click on support and licensing.

You won't have any issues with number of users 8)

Not really. SME Server is brought to you by the small number of developers who make it, plus their sponsors (when they occasionally have them), plus SME Server, Inc, which helps to keep the contribs.org webserver running, plus the many mirror sites around the world.
