Title: File timestamp?
Post by: murra on August 25, 2008, 10:42:53 AM
Hello,

This is the first time i don“t use win servers.
I use SME Server 7.3 on a file server for my home network it has to disks with software Raid 1.
Win 2000/xp/vista on the clients.
My problem is that if i make some changes in e.g. a .txt file the timestamp for last change and creation becomes the same.
Is it always like this with the Sme Server or can i change this somewhere?

Best Regards
Tommy

Have you updated your sme server using yum or teh server manager panel ?
I think this issue was discussed in these forums 6 months - 1 year ago.

My problem is that if i make some changes in e.g. a .txt file the timestamp for last change and creation becomes the same.

Many text editors write changes to disk by writing to a temporary file, and then renaming the temp file to the original filename. In this case you would always see the same change and creation time on the modified file.

I use MS Office in different versions. And this only happens when i save on the ibay. If i do the same thing to a file on my local drive the created time remains as it should.

I suggested this was discussed previously.
Have you searched the forums for the answer ?

Try searching on samba, as I think there was an update that fixed the issue.
