Hi everyone,
I created a little RPM to integrate the VMware Guest tools package on SME. Remember that this is a package intended to run on a virtual SME server. So far I have installed it on the virtual machines we run here (including one SME 8 virtual server) and could not find any problems. Basically it starts up the vmware-tools service on boot time and that is controlled by a db setting.
This package it available at:
http://mail.tw.co.nz/contribs/smeserver-vmware-tools-0.1-1.noarch.rpm
http://mail.tw.co.nz/contribs/smeserver-vmware-tools-0.1-1.src.rpm
Documentation will be produced later.
I'm also raising a ticket on the bug tracker.
Any feedback will be highly appreciated.

Hi!
I am considering using your rpm but before i do I need to understand something.
You mention that the purpose is to auto-start the vmware-tools when the SME comes up.
I am using Vmware ESXi 4 and this has a file called vmware-guestd that needs to be started. If I start this file manually by entering vmware-guestd at the console command prompt the vSphere Client starts reporting details about the SME correctly.
Is this what your RPM does, or can you update it to work with ESXi 4?
Regards
Alex

I'm running Esx3.5i update 4 and I used the howto ìn the wiki http://wiki.contribs.org/VMware_Tools (http://wiki.contribs.org/VMware_Tools). That works fine.
