Title: Help required urgently SOS - new install SME Server
Post by: pabby_s on October 01, 2008, 08:27:18 AM
Hi,

First of all i have to say this is great product, secondly i am new to Linux or SME Server. I had SME 7.2 installed on my office server acting as rellay for email. This server was booting from external SCSI drive. The server developed hardware fault and it crashed. The data is still on the external scsi drive. I need to get all my emails and data back. Please advise.
I have installed SME 7.3 on a new server, is ther a way that i can have all my emails and settings back.

Help will be highly appreciated.

Connect the old drive to the new server as a second disk, then mount it, then copy required files from /home/e-smith/files/users/....

Make sure the ownership is correct when finished, as it may change depending how you do your copying

Hi

I have connected my old drive and mind it is external drive connected through adaptech scsi card.
Issue 1: How to check the drive is recognised by system (the system when boots up detects the card, i have checked that)
Issue 2: When the drive is detected how to mount it

Please help as i am banging my head with walls otherwise.

Thanks

oops sorry i forgot to tell, the system has Perc HArdware Raid solution, and the drive from where the data needs to be copied is connected externally through adaptec 2940w card.

Well if you are logged in as root, you can issue any commands you want, as long as you know what to issue.
What "edit" command are you referring to ?

Have you done a Google search on Linux commands ?

You need to be proactive.
If you click on the Howto link at the top of these forums you will find the AddExtraHardDisk howtos

Seems you are using the SCSI Howto, try the other one and just replace hdx with sdx
