Title: port forward configure
Post by: swive on May 09, 2002, 01:24:34 AM
Hi,

I want to point my browser from work to my home sme server and tunnel the data over ssh from home to work.  I am able to log in with putty, but sme gives me a permission denied, with instructions to contact teh administrator; funny cuz that's me.  he he

I installed the port forwarding module from ezserver, but I do not understand how to configure it.

I chose TCP protocol
At work, I chose localhost:3128 to port forward on putty to home.ip:3128
At home, the "External Port number as 3128
I did not know what to put for Destination IP address because my computer at work has a private address and I don't know the gateway address.
For home Destination Port number, I chose 3128.

Can anyone correct my mistakes here, please?  Thank you,

Eriic

Hello Eric,

You can only portfrowarding from outside (the internetside) to a ip adres on you inside network.

example:

You have a database server in your office on 192.168.1.23 on poort x

You want acces this server on the internet zou you make portforwarding

On you SME server you say forwaarding port 1433 to the intenal adres 192.168.1.23 port x

This is what you can doo whith portforwaarding

Goodluck whith your thinking

From the internet, a port scan of my machine shows port 3128 is open and accepting connections.  I also know that ssh is running and accepting connections.  Am I correct to infer that SME has deliberatly disabled remote port forwarding?  How do they prevent me from doing remote pf?  I would like to torment my nosey system administrator; I don't want him sniffing around my stream. Is there no way to accomplish pf from work to home through sme server/gateway?

If you connect via VPN to your SME Server you should be able to see your whole network after you connect.
