Title: Stuck in Yum
Post by: WF168Tech on October 22, 2008, 07:40:02 PM
Updated from 7.2 to 7.3 today, using CD.  First removed any extra RPMs, ran the upgrade, all is well.  Logged into Server Manager, to install any additional updates.  SME downloaded many updates and dependencies and started to install them, but is hung up on installing tcsh.i386; screen just keeps refreshing; been waiting about 30 minutes now.  Not sure what to do.

Finally after 3 hours, it finally finished loading updates, over 300 of them.  All is well.

For anybody else reading this thread.

Do not get impatient with YUM, especially if this is a new install and all the updates not on the CD need to be downloaded and installed, if you stop the process at the wrong time you can trash your server.

And as an extra hint....

Wait till yum did it's checking after a fresh start (1 to 2 minutes). Use a secure shell and use the command 'yum update' so you have a little more insight in the process and don't need to worry or wonder.
