Title: dar archives on windows 2003 server
Post by: dilligaf on October 24, 2008, 08:55:08 PM
I have dar installed on a SME 7.3 server, and dumping successfully to a share on a Windows 2K3 Server.
I am wondering how others that may also do this, work with the archives?
How to extract from these archived specific files/folders to alternate location.
thank you

I am not sure if Midnight Commander will do what you want?

You would possibly have to copy the archive back to the SME server (or mount it on the Windows machine) to manipulate the files with this.

I have used the windows command line version successfully. The link is in the wiki: http://wiki.contribs.org/DAR2 (http://wiki.contribs.org/DAR2).
On a windows machine the restore location is probably NTFS or FAT so symbolic links and file permissions will not be restored.

As well as the posts above, don't forget the Disk ARchive restore panel supports selective restores to alternate locations directly.

You can find the windows binaries here : http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=65612&package_id=63114 (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=65612&package_id=63114).
The download includes documentation and a lot of examples.
Read the Tutorial.html file and find the text "Gosh, you have remove a important file by error.".
Adjust backup file name, location and your ready to go.
I use the 2.3.6 version at the moment.
