Hi there,
I've a problem here with the SME server installation.
I can ping and access the server via windows xp but I cannot access/ping via dos. E.g. netbootdisk.
Is there any settings I need to alter in order to access it via dos?
Please advise.
Regards.

Can you ping anything else on your network with the dos boot?
I would guess your netbootdisk is not setting up the network connection correctly on the workstation......

I've tested the netbootdisk on Windows Server and they are doing fine.
I can ping the server via the netbootdisk but it just refused to map to the server. It keep saying that the server is not found.
I have no problems mapping via windows explorer inside XP though.

Does anyone know why I can ping the SME server but I jst cannot map or find it when I am using Net Use inside XP? I can mapped to it using Windows Explorer but I am unable to do so if I boot from dos.

Why don't you try accessing a share on another workstation from your DOS environment? Another XP workstation will suffice for the test.
That way you can determine whether the problem lies at the server end or on the client side.

Hi,
I've tried accessing via another workstation but to no avail.
Is there anything I need to add or edit in the smb.conf for SME server to be able to access via dos?
Regards.

monktian,
I think you possibly did not understand davidiwharper's suggestion.
Using your netbootdisk, try to access a share ON one of your Windows XP machines. (From the workstation running the netbootdisk try to map a share on another WORKSTATION instead of on the server.) If this will work you know the problem is possibly a server setting. If it does not work you need to look at your netbootdisk environment. (you need to be sure any firewalls are turned off on the workstation when you perform this test.)
