Title: personal messages
Post by: christian on November 27, 2008, 03:09:41 PM
In these forums, how do we enable the ability to send personal messages as is the option in other forums? There is some information that I prefer not leave in an open forum such as sharing my email address.

They are disabled and will not be enabled. If you like to share information that is not for all the readers you should look for another channel than the forums.

Fine. Is there another channel which would allow someone to get in touch with another SME community member directly? I would prefer not to publish my email address for the sake of spam trolls.

You could post it in your profile, they are only visible to forum members AFAIK.

You have to put in an email address to register AFAIK, and if you enable the checkbox behind "Allow users to email you?" in your Account Settings page other forum members will see this small letter next to your username. They're then able to send you an email without seeing your actual emailadress. That's a feature of the new SMF 2.0 Beta 4, I guess, which was installed tacitly a few weeks ago.

That works. Thanks for the tip!

Also, Cactus is correct, you do have to be registered and logged in to see anyone's email address.
