Title: how do I force the console config to give me a restore option?
Post by: brianr on November 29, 2008, 06:03:24 PM
I am sure I have seen this somewhere, but 20 minutes with the forums search has not found this for me.

I need to restore a USB backup onto a system which has already been installed (although no real configuration has been done).

I suspect an entry in the db needs changing, then running config will allow me to restore?

you have to reinstall your system.. then, the first question is "do you want to restore from a usb backup?"

Only do this if it is a clean install, the db value you want to force the restore option is:

config set PasswordSet no

Otherwise, it's as Stefano says.

byte - excellent - that seems to be working. I had to reboot, rather than just re-run the config, and also after the question about restoring I had to ALT-F2 to another console task to mount the USB drive, as it was not auto mounting (in fact the init hangs at the udev stage if the USB disk is plugged in on boot).

many thanks..

It certainly would have been quicker for you just to do a fresh install than to wait for answers here.
