Title: Website Access
Post by: GertSkronewald on December 02, 2008, 09:42:29 PM
Hi Guys

Little issue... I installed SME server 7.3. I did not add any contribs yet. Config looks liks this.

Server int ip: 192.168.5.100  --- connected to linksys wireless router
Server ext ip: 192.168.1.200  --- connected to adsl router (192.168.1.1)
Internet Test works.

All client PC's ip's: 192.168.5.x via wireless (gateway on pc set to int ip of server ie. 192.168.5.100).

Now, for some reason i can access www.google.com, and check mail on www.gmail.com from my XP clients, but i cant access any other websites?

Is this normal? Do i need to unblock all websites i want to visit? I cant even access contribs.org. I took the server out the loop and connected directly to adsl from Xp pc, and all websites work fine, so there is no problem with the internet/isp as such.

Thanks

Are you sure you connected the proper ethernet to your WAN as well as to your LAN? You might have switched them... Did you run the internet test in the console when logged in as admin?

first check the name service by running the nslookup command on the server console and on the clients. Does it resolve all domain names?
Check the nameserver settings on the Xp boxes (ipconfig /all)

Check the route, using "route -n" on SME and "route -print " on the XP boxes. With  a coreect default route you should be able to ping known IP addresses.

SME server does not block any web sites by default

Yes, logging in as admin and running the internet test works fine.
