You can hide SME server by disconnecting from the power and hiding it in a closet.

Now, what problem are you trying to solve?

As far as I know you can not do that with any host on any network.

Re-read the OP.

electroman00, I've read many times the OP post, and I still don't understand what he wants to achieve..

you can hide a ibay making it non browsable, but, AFAIK, you can't hide a server from a workgroup.

So maybe OP has a problem and he is trying to solve it in HIS way.. I've asked OP to explain HIS problem to help him..

Now, do you need any further clarification? :-)

I'm sure sometimes mine and other's answers are not the best, but MANY times who ask for help and information should know how and what to ask..

I agree, sometimes people have a wish and already thought of one possible solution and are asking how to apply it, while there is a more suitable, more easy or better solution available through standard SME Server functionality, that is why stating the issue (as well) would indeed be helpfull. There are a lot of experienced people and knowledge bundled in this forum community, that most of the time brings a perfectly suited solution or sometimes even a better view/solution on a problem.

you could put it in another workgroup - not invisible, but doesn't show up in Network Neighbourhood so easily

Would still show in the hood, I've got some servers setup like that here.

Disabling the smb service might do the trick??
Tried it here seems to work.

Not sure what other effects it might have, that may or may not be desired.

You can try this http://wiki.contribs.org/Service_Control (http://wiki.contribs.org/Service_Control) to start/stop the services.
Pay attention to the warnings posted there.

OP hasn't bothered to clarify the requirement, so I think we should stop wasting time.
