Title: VPN through Linksys Router to SME - No Network Neighborhood
Post by: Marco Ranieri on May 15, 2002, 07:14:30 PM
I have an SME 5.1.2 box which has VPN set up. The VPN works great if you want to connect via high speed and you don't have a firewall or router like the Linksys variety between you and the server.

I have a situation where a friend has a Linksys router, has PPTP pass through enabled, and tries to connect to my server. They can connect through VPN, ping my server, but nothing shows up in their network neighborhood, except their computer (only after several seconds).

They are part of the same workgroup. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Tell your friend to go to Start/Run and enter //servername. (Subsititute the name of your server). All the ibays on your server should show up.

Also, this may be necessary: If they are using W95/98/ME, make sure they have logged in to their own computer using the Client for Microsoft Networks as a user that has permissions on your SME server. (In addition to entering that info in the Microsoft VPN client).

I had a similar situation. Do you have a Wins server?
Try a simple hosts file on the client pc's.
