I have been using E-Smith 4.0 b3 for some time now. It's a great product. But I would like it to do just a little more.
I would like to use it as a filtering proxy also. I'm using as a gateway to a school and it would be nice to be able to filter some of the requests.
There is a product called SquidGuard (www.squidguard.org) that will interface with the squid server that is used in your product. That looks as if it would fit the bill. This product requires the Berkeley 2.x DB Library to function. And the Berkeley 2.x DB Library requires an ANSI C complirer (gcc) to operate.
Everytime that try to install gcc rpms and error message comes back that this rpm cannot be installed.
Any help or comment would be appreciated.

Personally I am opposed to censorship ....
See http://www.censorware.org/
& http://www.peacefire.org
though a filtering proxy can also be used to block banner adds and the like. For this function I have extensively used Internet Junk Buster(IJB) . It is available as a RPM and I found it relatively easy to install and configure. Looking at the Squidguard web site IJB appears to have most of the functions.

Another alternative is:

"Squid has the ability to spawn a few child processes whose job is to rewrite URLs on the fly. Mostly, this is used to redirect requests for commonly downloaded files to a local mirror. It
can also be used to redirect advertising banners to a GIF on the local web server."
