I have an HP Proliant ML310 with a HighPoint RocketRAID 454 (IDE 4 port RAID card) and 4 * 250GB drives installed. I set in the RAID card as a 4 drive RAID 5. I can run the installer for SME 7.4 but after removing the CD and attempting to boot the system I get the following:
GRUB loading, please wait...
Error 2
Now this error translates to:
2 : Bad file or directory type
This error is returned if a file requested is not a regular file, but something like a symbolic link, directory, or FIFO.
What now? I have installed a number of times and still come up with the same result. I have checked the boot order in the BIOS of both the computer and the RAID card and they seem to be set correctly.
Any thoughts or suggestions on how to get my new (old) server working. Thanks

Since it is a plain installation I suggest you report this to the bugtracker, you might end up with the same advice as nenonano gave you, but we can forward the bug with all details to the documentation team to update the hardware support section of the wiki.
If you reported the bug, please post a refference to this bug here for future users.

I did some research to check the validity of what nenonano was saying in regards to the HP raid card. From what I found it does appear just to be a software RAID card which I thought it was not. Just cause you pay a little more for it doesn't make it a hardware RAID.
I took his advice and built the system using a software RAID and the "nospare" option and it built fine. As to lodging a bug, I think it is more a driver issue than a genuine bug with SME, thanks for the suggestion though.
