Hi,
As I am a newbie to Windows, I guess I have have to ask this...
Is there a way to let W2K computes authenticate through an SME server, and automatically mount/map the home directory to a drive?
There is something called Workgroup, which may be used for this...
Someone who can point me in the right direction?
Edit: This is about XP Home users,

hi
first of all setup your SME as Domain Controller and adjust your windows workgroup name as you prefer.. read this (http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:Administration_Manual:Chapter13#Workgroup)
then, read here (http://www.petri.co.il/joining_a_domain_in_windows_xp_pro.htm) or search with google..
since you join the domain when a domain user (i.e. a SME user) log on w2k client, his home will be mounted automagically :-)
HTH

I have done that...
but do I have to add the users to the W2K host also?

Ok.. I will have a look..
I run XP home, so there is no domain, only workgroup.. Does that work anyway?

What are you using, here you state XP Home (which will not work with domains as M$ left this part out) or NT like described in your subject?

Oops. sorry!
It should be XP Home and nothing else....

XP home can't participate in a Windows Domain. You will need to make sure the Workgroup and Domain controller is set to No in the server-manager Workgroup panel.
Add all users to SME who will need access to SME shares.
Remember, in workgroup mode, each client will need user accounts for all users who will be accessing shares on that machine.

this is not necessary, AFAIK

I stand corrected. I agree, it shouldn't matter if SME is in workgroup of domain master mode from the workgroup clients standpoint. In fact, selecting Yes is probably a better option as it will force SME to be the master browser for the workgroup.

Thanks for your help!
One last question:
If I want to have the feature of not having to add users to Win clients, then I have to run XP Pro?

Yes and you will also have to configure it to add to a domain, as this is a feature from a domain. A workgroup does not have a central list of users, they are configured on a per client basis.

Ok..
Thanks for all your answers.
