Are squidguard and dansguardian "basically" the same thing. Im looking for some filtering software. I think in the past I have installed both on SME 6, and while two pieces of software are better than one, do I really need both if they are doing the same thing. Im not an expert on either however.
Can anyone tell me the above info. If they are the same is one better than the other.

hi
they are different in the way they analyze and block traffic: the first rely on rules and lists (ip, domains, words, ecc), the second does a "heuristic" analisys of the pages IIRC

note dans does everything squidguard does + the heuristics

Thanks for all that, it helps.

Dansguardian is more widely used than Squidguard.
I've only used Dansguardian and can say that it does work well. Further, you shouldn't have a problem finding information about Dansguardian and SME as there have been ongoing discussions and contrib development efforts with this app.
