Like most I suspect, I leave the wiki as my resource for SME Server. I don't think it is neceaary for me to download the pages and print them, so I would be in favour of a positive solution that allows for mirrors of the wiki and possibly the forums etc? Any ideas?
I can't code, but I would like to see something that works like bittorent in this respect, that is, the wiki and forum is mirrored out in versions and shared over the p2p network. On each subscribers SME Server, a contrib/script always downloads the latest versions of the DB and syncs them to a local copy on their server.. This could be a contrib that has many other applications in other areas of business.
Once a subscriber has a local copy of contribs.org, there is an option for that Subscribers SME Server to mirror the website and register their IP address as a localised mirror. The whole thing can be load balanced against available bandwidth the subscriber donates to the website. Again, this by a contrib that will be popular for many other applications. I know Squid can probably do a lot of this, but it's beyond what I can understand and have time for.
I feel this is though a contrib that could be sold as it promotes continuity of bunsiness and will have many other applications. In my case, I would like to see contribs.org (or any other website) from a local mirror that is a few hours behind, but available. For this, I would be happy to donate some bandwidth to contribs.org, as will many others and as such, the website can become multiply redundant, such that each subscriber only shares a few copies of the webpages each day.
Obviously this is a one way thing with the edit/write to wiki and forums only being available on the live site, and webpage links accomodate this when posts are attempted.
Any takers?

I´d like to volunteer on this effort... I have an Bluehost.com account who has LOTS of free space/bandwith... not sure if it´s usable for you... but if you need, count on me!

You not only need free space and bandwith, you could try and contact admin [at] contribs [dot] org.

Apart from mirroring contribs.org, is it possible to motivate a contrib that can mirror a wiki as described, I would like to use that for something else anyhow?
Even if I have to chip in a few dollars...

It is not possible to just mirror the contribs.org wiki because the contents are generated on the fly from mysql data. Contribs.org isn't a simple mediawiki installation, but a complex interconnection of several servers, software, and services to provide unified authentication across all contribs.org services.
Steps are being taken now to setup a failover location for contribs.org.
If you want to help with contribs.org beyond those avenues available through the site (e.g., forums, bug tracker, etc), please raise a bug in the bug tracker under contribs.org web site and/or send an email to admin@contribs.org.
Thank you.
