Title: Added new domain, but cant send email?
Post by: dd3 on February 09, 2009, 11:56:45 PM
Hi,

Ive tried searching but cannot find answer so hopefully someone can help.

Ive registered 2 new domain names and pointed the mx records at mail.newdomain.com with the external IP address of the sme server.

if I send email to user@newdomain.com the email is recieved via the smeserver ok.

However if I reply to the email the sme server bounces the outgoing email back to the client with the following error:

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at origionalsmedomain.com.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

<externalemailuser@hotmail.co.uk>:
127.0.0.1 does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 550 Sender verify failed
Giving up on 127.0.0.1.

nb My server is setup to send email via my isps smtp servers.

any ideas whats going wrong?

Your ISP's mail server has rejected the message. The only clue they have given as to reason is "Sender verify failed". I expect the From address is something they do not like (an invalid domain, perhaps?). The From address is set in the configuration of your mail client program.

Talk to your ISP. They will know why they are rejecting your mail messages.

I wondered if it was maybe because sme identified itself as my origional domain ( the primary one) but was sending an email as if it was from a different domain (the new one).

will ask the isp though.
