Title: Basic Discussion about SME Server and Webmastertools
Post by: linuxhelp on February 13, 2009, 07:39:14 PM
Hello@ALL

i hope you allow me a basic question.
I have setup a small sme server for 4 Sites which are published via
"dyndns" (http://www.myserver.dyndns.org) The dyndns is a
framed forwarded address to http://www.myserver.com.
All sites are working well, but if i test them with Webmastertools
of Google or Yahoo i got feedback the my http://www.myserver.com/robots.txt
is not found by Bots. Same Problem with the yahoo diagnostic files like
http://www.myserver.com/y1234568745569.html But i can show them
inside my Browser..
Instead of this if i record the Site on the Yahoo Webamstertools as http://www.myserver.dyndns.org/y1234568745569.html
Google and Yahoo can bot them and find the sitemaps too??

Whats wrong?? iam tyred...cause i want publish them all as .com or .de

THANKS for help
Tom

If that is what you want then do that as it makes life more easy. Register a domain for all of them and configure them on your server. Configure the external DNS for the domains to point to your IP and you should be done.

No you do not need to set your server as a DNS server, you need to (have your provider) configure the DNS entry for the domains you host to point to your IP address instead of where they are pointing now.

Hello

thanks for reply, this is the current problem
its a very simple account, i can only make a full
"http" forward which results the www.myserver.dyndns.org domain
or
the bad "framed forward" which is unseen by search Bots
thanks for your help
at future  i try to change to a provider which have dyndns-service
directly..

Does your internet connection (where the sme server is) have a dynamic or static IP ?

Hi

only dynamic..
changed ip every 4 hours..

May I suggest using a CNAME record?

Works for me. I have a dyndns domain and a paid domain pointing via CNAME to the dyndns domain. Then just set up the dyndns client to update the IP every 3 or 4 hours.

Hello,

the record to change should be able on nearly every domainprovider in germany.
If you need a name of a Provider where you can order a on a dyndns pointed domain feel
free to email me.

Greetings,

Lance
