Title: Two LAN's

Hi,

We have and SME server 7.4 and we want to connect it to two VLAN's.

We used the server only on one VLAN but users on our other VLAN now want access to the ibays.

We have one NIC connected to a switch port on our usual VLAN and another to a switch port on the other VLAN.

ifconfig shows the two NIC's are up with appropriate IP addresses and subnet masks for each VLAN and it is only in server mode. There are also no routers

When users on the new VLAN attempt to connect to an ibay via a Web Browser they receive a message in the browser saying that the page can not be displayed. Users on this new VLAN can ping the SME server.

Anyone and ideas on what is going wrong?

Welcome to the forums :-)

You probably need to add the second network as a local network. See the manual (http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:Administration_Manual:Chapter11#Local_networks) for more information.

That said, even though you have two NICs installed, AFAIK eth1 is only configured in Server and Gateway mode. So you may be out of luck without additional work. So if the above doesn't do the trick, let us know.

To add a new local network it requires a router IP address but we do not have one to gain access to the other VLAN.

Any ideas ?

I guess you could try putting the IP address of the eth1 (2nd VLAN) interface.

It says that the router address in not available form the local network.

The server local network is 10.8.128.0 subnet mask 255.255.240.0
The other network is 10.3.0.0 subnet mask 255.255.255.0

Am in a no win situation with what I am trying to do ?

I know very little about vlans. Can you put a router between the networks and only allow the SME IP to have access through it?

If this is done incorrectly the LAN side vlan will have access to the WAN vlan, although not the other way around.

Your life will be easier if you use a router.

Arre you quite sure that you have no routers?
