Title: Bad TCP Checksum
Post by: uniqsys on March 06, 2009, 11:05:21 PM
In browsing /var/log/messages after a connectivity dropout on a SME 7.4 server connected to Verizon via PPoE I noticed several lines:

"Bad TCP Checksum a48c"

It appears the event "/etc/ppp/ip-up" starts but does not get connectivity due to this error.  Connection to the internet is lost and a reboot is required to re-establish it.
The loss is intermittent and can not be reproduced on demand, it just happens sometimes.

Does this error imply a hardware failure in the NIC?

This is unlikely to be a software error. However, a cable or the ADSL modem could also be at fault, rather than the NIC. You'll need to do some testing to run down the culprit.

Thanks, I thought that might be the case.
