Title: Squid on SME 5.1.2
Post by: Mark Worley on May 24, 2002, 03:08:33 AM
I am wanting to use the squid proxy of SME 5.1.2 as the caching proxy for our network and have a couple of questions. Does it listen on the default port 3128? How do I modify the default cache size? I assume I need to edit squid.conf but it has a message saying not to edit but to edit a template instead, which I cannot find.
Any help much appreciated.

hello  ,,
as with regards to your posted message ,,  actually you can edit or replace the default 3128 port to port 80 to match your http setting you can chage it in squid.conf file,,,,also you can adjust the cache size on the squid.conf file...then after changing i assume that you already know how to start and stop the server ,,,if not try this one....this one stops the squid service .....etc /rc.d/init.d/squid stop ,,,,and this one ...etc /rc.d/init.d/squid start ,,,,you can actually use restart ,,,any help dont hesitate to email me back,,,were not guru's but were trying to be knowlegeable on this one....

Hi Christian,
My problem is that when I open squid.conf in pico there are commented lines at the top saying not to edit this file but to edit the file in the templated directory. Any clues on this? I can't find the template file.

Greetings Mark
Have a look in this directory... /etc/e-smith/templates/etc/squid/squid.conf

I hope this helps
