My client has sme 7.3:
i'm trying to install vacation-message addon as he requests but get a error;
Error: Missing Dependency: whiptail is needed by package e-smith-base
Any help would be great.

Hi

P.S. think about upgrading your SME as the stable version is 7.4

sorry my bad :-)
I was using
yum --enablerepo=smecontribs install smeserver-vacation from dungog.net
I'm running the server updates now and will try it again after it finished, i think it will take a while.
thanks for your help and I will post after it finishes.

You should definitely upgrade to version 7.4 first, because there were issues with the smeserver-vacation contrib in version 7.3 (mainly regarding a dependency with FormMagick: e.g. http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4582).

I have updated to 7.4 and all looks good, but the auto reply seams to work once then stops.
then if I turn the auto reply off then on, it will work once again.?
Is there any way to force a reinstallation of the vacation message package?
I know sometimes this works with bugs in windows programs.

do you mean that you are receiveing only a vacation message?
I think this is by design.
if you want to remove a package, do
rpm -e packagename
anyway, I don't think this is necessary

I think I have found out what went wrong.
Answer = ME. Im an IDIOT.
After I did all the updates, then the "remove" option with YUM, then installed it all again, it still acted the same way.
then i read the instructions again.
the last line on the section on the install page said a reply will only be sent once to a reciepient a week(default setup)
So testing it and expecting all the replies to come back, I thought it wasnt working.
Anyway I learnt a lot and I'm sorry for this post that wasted your time.
thanks for helping.
Cheers
Stuart
