Hi
I need to purchase a UPS that will work with SME 7.3, and will shut the server down gracefully in the event of power failure. Has anyone had any good / bad experiences of any particular makes / models?
Many TIA

hi
I have a couple of:
iManufacturer American Power Conversion
iProduct Smart-UPS 750 FW:651.12.I USB FW:4.2
they work perfectly with nut/SME
anyway, please upgrade your SME to the last stable version (7.4) ;-)

I suggest you to look for APC ups (those with USB communication).
With apcupsd you can do shutdown when battery is almost exausted.
I have it working on several SME7x servers right now.
It even has a nice web interface showing several parameters about your nobreak. :)

(I never tryied APC nobreaks with NUT... just prefer APCUPSd!)

Thanks guys, I'll look at APC.

Just waiting for the business to give me some downtime. SME is so stable, they've got used to it running faultlessly 24/7 :P

ok.. but, for the OP, it's not necessary to install apcupsd to use APC's ups with SME.

To clarify, is that because you propose not using any shutdown software or because SME has NUT already installed?
See http://wiki.contribs.org/Uninterruptable_Power_Supply (http://wiki.contribs.org/Uninterruptable_Power_Supply) for instructions on how to enable and configure NUT.
