Hi,
I had a SME 7.2 as a domain server and one drive from raid array just died. The guy who install it use a hardware raid and on top of it a software raid. The array was rebuild automaticaly (don`t know how... but now a lots of files are not accessible - some from sme itself - preventing it from booting - and most of my ibays). Even the dar2 back-ups are corrupted (hence it was not a sudden death) and i had to restore "by hand". I just manage to get some of the configuration files like passwd, shadow, group, gshadow, sambapasswd.
After reinstall i can`t do a restore from file because i don`t have the proper smeserver.tar.gz file so i try to do it manualy:
I did a clean install, and then replace those files and issue a post-restore signal-event.
However, 2 problems surfaced:
1) It recognize the user passwords but say that account is locked and can`t login
2) Does not recognize machine accounts so even if i reset user password i can`t logon to domain.
I have reinstall sme, recreate the users, unlock them and then change files but no luck. Moreover the user file permissions are messed up now (i have fixed them by hand, but i think that a user has some uid in file and other uid in db so on any reconfiguration the sme will mess them up again)
Please advise on proper recovery process. I need those users and ability for them to logon to domain without re-adding them to domain (are about 50 and i don`t have local adminstrative rights on every computer so a full windows reinstall will be needed and i try to avoid that).
Also i did a sector-by-sector image of the array before reinstall with the acronis true image software. Is there any chance to recover some of my ibays files ? What software do i need ? I can see the files but i can`t access them. The ls -la command show them with "?" instead of any information.
I don`t have many experience with linux so any info would be appreciated
Thank you

Here is some info re what files are required to do a full restore.

As you are missing machine accounts then I'm guessing that some configuration db files that are needed have not been restored.
You can also boot to the install CD in rescue mode and see if you can read the drives. Read the FAQ/wiki for details re this, and/or search the forums as it has been answered many times.
