If you need the benchfax utility it is now at
wget wget http://downloads.digium.com/pub/telephony/fax/benchfax/x86-32/benchfax-1.0.7-x86_32 -O benchfax
The instructions in the readme are incorrect.
Yet to try it.

Is this something that the development team would be looking into for SAIL?
-
Until someone can tell us what value it has we aren't sure who it's for.
Businesses tend to receive fax in one of two ways; either over ISDN30E to real fax machines (thru the PBX) or over separate ISDN2E/ISDN30E (or the web) to softfax devices (mainly Windows based). No one is asking us for a third way right now.
Chip in if you have an opinion on this.

As much as it would be a nice "have" I agree with you Jeff.
The majority of our customers have a seperate fax machine..
We mainly receive faxes, so for myself and a couple of my customers it would be ideal. But sending faxes still involves having a fax machine as the softfax options (scanner to pdf, etc) are just to damn slow for daily use.
I put up with hylafax and iaxmodem, because having a seperate fax machine is pointless, emailed pdf's are great as I only print the doc's I need and not all the junk faxes I get.
I live with answering the phone to the sound of a fax and having to forward it to the fax extension because fax detection has never worked reliably.
If I wanted all the gizmos hanging off my phone system I'd install "that other contrib", but I prefer the rock solid phone system that I have instead.

I think it will be a very nice addition!
Today I use a combination of hylafax/ ext. modem/Digium's FXS, and fax detection works for me.
Sending faxes via a virtual printer is very helpfull too!

We have been trying Incoming Fax --> duet switch --> ext Modem. This has worked until recent updates but now appears to failing as asterisk switches to IVR faster than the Duet identifies the call.
How is yours setup?

asterisk switches to IVR faster than the Duet identifies the call.
752/4 has stuff in it to help with that

Thanks Jeff will wait on 2.3.1-4.

also in 2.3.1.3 - the faxdetectdelay now works correctly. You may find you can re-hook your fax machine up downstream of the PBX rather than off a T-switch

Sounds great
Will it work with a duet line and split the call like the T switch?
Or will it ignore the different ring tone and just wait for the fax signal?
Thanks

That pretty much the issue I have, Jeffs agi's run so fast the systems overshoots the fax extension.
I'm on 752 as of late last week, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference.

set fax detect ON in the analogue channel (FXO)
set faxdetect to around 5 seconds in globals
Fling a fax at it

How is yours setup?
Hi, I guess Jeff already responded the question, I have mine set at 4 seconds.
I'll be upgrading my system soon and see how it works with Dahdi.
Thanks,

For me personally, I think the option should be put in with option in the system to enable or disable as required.
For my business, the option would be great. Maybe there are others out there that feel the same.
On another note ... has anyone setup and are using a Linksys SPA-3102 with a fax machine connected to that?
This at the moment would be how I would connect it.
My current setup is the PSTN with ADSL comes into a splitter and the phone goes to the fax machine.
The ADSL goes to the modem and the to the SAIL/SME server and Client machines. the ADSL modem has 2 SIP clients built in with are working fine.

I would like to put the fax machine on the internal part of the network but have come up with a reasonable solution at this time. Maybe this option might be the way to go.

These are just my thoughts.
