Hi all,
I have been running SME server at home for several years now, sometimes I needed help, which mostly was found here.
Thanks for that still!
Currently, I encounter problems with the address book as found in webmail.
All users use the Horde Webmail only, no external IMAP or POP3 clients are used.
I (and all other users) do find their existing (6.5) contacts, so they are in there.
However, most address book funtionality generates errors:
Working:
Address book can be browsed. when browsing, new messages can be started.
Not working:
I cannot search the address book.
I cannot add new contacts (not through the icon in a received mesasge, not via the add new contact option.
I can select contacts to export (while browsing) but when it hould export it reports there are no addresses to
export.
In most cases, the message is: "Failed to search the directory: DB Error: no such field" (or similar).
Errors existsince I switched from 6.5 to 7.4. Basically, I transfered all data using desktop backup and subsequently restored as part of a fresh install install.
My assumption is that the DB structure of the old data is not (completely) consistent with the expected new
structure, or some references are broken or changed.
How can I overcome this?
Did I miss any additional steps while backing up and restoring to a switching to a fresh install?
More imporantly: how to get to a full functioning address book?
I hope you can help me out!
Thanks,
Bart

Additional info:
under 6.5, I had some contribs installed, mostly from Swerts-Knudsen.dk. The Spam filtering, Clam and MRTG spam/Clam
monitoring were the only ones involved in email (as far as I know).
Now running 7.4 on Epia PD6000 board, with 160 GB disk.

Someone will tell you to file a bug report, so you might as well do that. When you do, state exactly the state your system was in before you upgraded, what steps you took to upgrade your system, what doesn't work in webmail, attach /var/log/messages to your report showing what errors are showing up in the log when you try to do your address book functions.

Thanks John.
Already feared that I was to get redirected to Bugzilla.
Anyway, will file it as a bug, but I will first try to reproduce the issue (which will allow me better to record all I did).
As soon as bug is filed, I'll post the number here for cross-reference (guess that will be the next remark...)

Nope... :-)

Don't fear, it is not a real monster :-)

No I suggest you file a bug ASAP, the developers know a lot of the system and upgrade processes and might point you to your solution without a lot of searching and making things only more complex to solve.

I'll be a contrary voice. There are few developers, and I suggest that identifying and fixing an upgrade from 6.x bug, one most likely caused by a bad contrib, will be very low on our priorities at present.
I suggest OP identify and remove all contribs and custom templates, then do:
signal-event post-upgrade; signal-event reboot
Maybe then if there is still a problem then file a bug report.

Since I had several contribs installed (some of which I did not even use anymore), I decided to do a fresh and clean install.
First I made tar-balls for the user dir and the ibays. Also exported address books (for all users, there are only a few).
Performed install, recreated all settings and users.
Unpacked tar-balls, imported address books.
All works fine ever after!
Altogether, i conclude that some of my outdated contribs, the lack of (some) updates or what have you interfered with address book.
Disadvantage now was that it was more laborious, but advantages are that I have a really clean install and a fresh restart!
So thanks for you feedback, topic may be closed as far as I'm concerned...
