We're thinking of migrating a collection of samba servers with postgres as the passdb to SMEServer to unify our administration tools.
Our main question, is the volume of users. We would not be using any of the gateway features, and would be using it strictly as a user authentication mechanism, providing shares and printing as well.
Would this be appropriate for a 1500-1750 user implementation?
Thanks!

as far as you have enough HW resources (ram/cpu/space on hd/bandwidth), I would say there's no reason why it should not work.
probably tha main problem would be the administration itself; think about user's web panel: there's no pagination so every time you load that page you have to wait for ALL the users to be loaded.
Ciao
