Title: Converting a server-only to server-gateway
Post by: Ed Clarke on May 30, 2002, 02:26:38 AM
Hi, Is it possible to convert a server-only to server-gateway without any problems?
Computer already has 2 nic cards.

Also, can a person use 2 internet providers at the same time? I have a cisco 2524
with a 256k line and am adding a breezecom sa10d wireless.  will have 2 different
ip number ranges to deal with.  i suppose i really need a better router.

Still learning. Thanks.

I don't know about the two ISP's bit but the conversion from server-only to server gateway should be a breeze with the commandline console.

(ie. /sbin/e-smith/console )

I did this once (server only to server/gateway). Here is what I did.

I SSH into the server as 'admin'. This should bring on the graphical 'Server Console' screen. Select option 2 'Configure this server' and follow the prompts. After about 7 screens you get to a screen that lets you choose server/gateway or server only. Continue on until the end, you will have to make some changes as you progress but the prompts are pretty clear. At the end you will have to reboot, and you should be golden.

If you do not know how to SSH, you can login at the server itself so log as you have a keyboard and monitor hooked up it.

Hope this helps.

I don't know about the second option, but just run the configuration wizard again to change to server and gateway mode...
