First of all I would just like to say that I really like SME Server! I have been using it for around 4 years now … Great, Great Job to all involved with the project!!!
Secondly, this is my first post ever on any forum in 12 years of working on servers, plus my first PBX, so please bear with me. Also, I like to find things on my own, and usually pretty good at solving my own problems; asking for help is hard enough for me. I also hope I am post this in the right place, and that this post helps others. Also, I already know that one question per thread is preferred, but you have to understand the project in order to understand the issues, and hopefully/may be of some help.
You guys will just love this project!
The setup (ill try to make it brief)…
An individual came to me for help to avoid be sued on a project. The client had an $8,000,000 house built where everything is automated i.e. doorbells, cameras, lights, salt water pools, theater, observatory, and even a salt water fish tank. The individual was just in over his head, as am I. Using the power of SME Server spread across several servers, battery back system, plus a generator, and a lot of custom tweaking, two custom contribs, and one custom Drupal interface linking the server-manager, user-manager, ajaxterm, webftp, freePBX, horde, the interface for the salt water fish tank using Drupal permission system on an intranet i-bay, and even automated offsite backs. Everything works great except 3 issues on the PBX setup, and 1 non PBX issue/question.
There are 15 extensions …
(5000-5010 are Linksys SPA942 IP Phones)
(6000-6001 are POTS phones with Grandstream adapters)
(7000-7001 are for the doorbells)
(and one call group 600)
There are 3 inbound routes for 3 trunks…
(One for Broad Voice for all calls in or out ‘sip.broadvoice.com’)
(One for the front set of doorbells) A Doorbell Fon connected to ZAP/3
(One for the back set of boordells) A Doorbell Fon connected to ZAP/4
When there is an inbound call, or the doorbells are toggled they ring call group 600. Call group 600 then rings all phone extensions. If there is no answer the call then goes to extension 5000's voice mail.
I would love nothing more than inbound route for ZAP/3, and ZAP/4 to ring different custom doorbell sound, but every time I make a test adjustment I have to call the client to test the adjustment because he now lives in his new home.
After all this setup I can’t seem to make the phones ring differently for the 2 different doorbells after two attemps. When I try Alert Info for the doorbells inbound route (“http://domain/custom.mp3”, or “n=Simple-5;w=2;c=5”) the phones simply don’t ring, and the call goes to voice mail. If it helps I went with freePBX, so the client can read the pretty little helpful hints. I just want it to work without have to call him every time to test for me.
Is there something I am doing wrong, or over looking with Alert Info?

Googling a bit for info on your SPA942 IP Phones it should be possible according voip-info:
http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/SPA-941#DistinctiveRingtone
But there are also some posts about different results with different firmware's for you phone:
http://forum.voxilla.com/linksys-sipura-voip-support-forum/spa-942-distinctive-ring-asterisk-25228.html
Why not put the calling extension in your phone's phonebook and give it a 'personal' ring tone?!
