Has anyone here used ZFS-Fuse on SME7?
I have a box of 12 leftover hard disks ranging from 80-320GB that I have accumulated over the years. I've been thinking of putting together an SME box as a storage array.
Now, I want it to have redundancy so a disk failure won't impact me too badly, but the md driver in SME doesn't handle nonidentical sized disks. I've looked at unRAID, but due to it's architecture (booting from USB) it is not suitable.
Which leads me to the question above. ZFS seems ideal for this role. If I have to, I will install OpenSolaris on this box but since I am more familiar with SME (and let's face it, it's so simple you can't go wrong) and I like it's features, I'd prefer to stick with it.
Has anyone used ZFS on SME? Is it ready for primetime? Any gotchas?
Any comments would be appreciated.

Hi..
IMO you'd better install opensolaris.. using ZFS via FUSE will be a pain

Off-topic for this forum - which concerns only software installed via the SME server CD.

Getting ZFS to work decently on SME will be a major PITA.
Opensolaris is the way to go. Setting up pools is extremely simple, and if you have questions they can be answered very easily by searching for your intent on google. They actually have a webinterface for dealing with ZFS now, so that part should be piece of cake.
The only headaches you could be prune to is if you want to do webhosting or something, as it usually required one to get familiar with templates and such.
