Title: Outlook Support...
Post by: danielrm26 on June 03, 2002, 12:42:18 AM
Greetings,

I am trying to find out why it is that I am not able to use rules in Outlook 2000 or 2002 to send sent mail to the 'sent-mail' IMAP folder.  The messages SOMETIMES go but usually not.

Also, when I switch to view my sent-mail folder in IMAP my view always reverts back to auto preview no matter how many times I disable it.

I have been having these problems for the last few versions of e-smith and I am wondering if there are any work arounds or solutions to the problems with Outlook compatibility.

Thank you,

Daniel

I don't encounter either of these problems under Lookout 2000.  FWIW, the rule I'm using reads: "apply this rule after I send the message uses the message form move a copy to the sent-mail folder".  Doesn't help you much, I guess, but I don't think it's a general problem with e-smith vs. outlook.

Hi Daniel,

have had that problem as well with other imap servers. Looks like being a problem with outlook and imap in general.

If there is anyone out there having a solution ( except manually moving locally stored sent mail to the imap server ) - welcome !

Greetings,

Ralph

Which version of Outlook are you using? I'm not having the problem you describe with Outlook 2000 SR 1.

I am having the problem with Outlook 2002, but I had it with the 2000 version too.

So, to the person who is not having the problem, are you saying that every single message you send gets sent to your sent-mail folder the way it should?

Yes, every single message gets sent to sent-mail as it should.

I tested this rule on Outlook 2002 with sr1 applied.
I was able to test sending a message and having it move a copy to the sent-mail folder on my SME 5.12 server.  Make sure you uncheck all the items in the "which conditions do you want to check" dialog box in the Outlook rules wizard.

Now I need to find out how to delete the local copy automatically after it copies it to my Imap server......

I found out how to fix this if anyone cares.  It is not a true fix, just a workaround, but it works.

Ok, you need to configure a POP account on your client.  You can make a fake one I guess, but I have plenty of accounts that I can add so I just added a real one.

Then go into your rules configuration.  Pull down from the pull down menu your new POP account.  Make your rule as you did in your IMAP account (for all messages send a copy to a certain IMAP folder).

When finishing the rule it asked me if I want to apply it to all accounts  (This dialogue didn't come up when I was making the same rule under my IMAP account, by the way).  I chose yes.

Upon completing the rule I sent several test messages both immediately and after restarting Oultook.

It has never failed to send a copy to my targeted IMAP folder, so I am happy for now.  I do hope that they get their IMAP support fixed in the next version of Outlook though.

:)
