Title: sme server and NVIDIA RAID!
Post by: dexter1983 on August 20, 2009, 01:28:18 PM
Hi guys! Recently on my test computer I installed sme server.
I have 2 hard drives, 80 GB each, configured in RAID Striping mode.
The setup of sme detecting RAID configuration, and at the finish pres enter for successfully install, but after reboot, GRUB loading.... Error 17

On bios first boot is HDD, and hdd priority is SCSI NVIDIA RAID.

What is the problem!?

Thank you!

Nvidia RAID. Don't use it (search here or on web for 'fakeraid' to learn why) - and it's not (properly) supported by SME server.

Disable RAID in your BIOS, and install again, using 'msl nodmraid' at the command line (hold down SHIFT to get a boot prompt).

Yes I know what is it fakeraid. There is a any differences of performances between hardware raid and fake(software)raid!?
Thank you very much for suggestions!

it's not a matter of better performances.. if you use fakeraid and your controller dies, your data are (almost) lost if you aren't able to find an identical controller..

real raid controllers have ram and cache battery on board
