Title: Governance and Leadership
Post by: johnp on September 22, 2009, 10:11:33 AM
Any new news on this? Without all issues addressed and the establishment of some chain of command, the in-fighting is just going to escalate IMHO.

I just was notified that my paypal donation subscription was cancelled, now whats up with that?  I would think it should continue until I said stop. Along the same line, the donation level should be X times 12 instead of 10. Yes, all that read this should consider donating to keep this wonderful contrib alive, and perhaps see some desired additions.

For sure I want to honor those on the development team as well as those who continue to provide their experience and knowledege to maintain these forums.

To aid in 8, I'm going to try to put something up in server-gateway mode, that would be accessible from anyone who would email me and request the admin password. I know most of us don't have the time individually to verify bugs, but maybe some communal effort can be achieved. FWIW, I live in MI, where we are all clutching on straws to keep us afloat.

Flame on :)

I finally decided to run several sme 8 test servers as a result of reading some of the devinfo postings.

I would love to see a forums just for 8 it might encourage others to get involved as well. I suspect new comers who might have something to offer actually pass sme over because the lack of information available of any further releases. I know people are going to say we have bug tracker etc etc But isn't the forums the first point of call for new people. I know I often look at a product and then go to straight to the forums page to gauge the level of support likely.

Please do not start this discussion again... it has been discussed many times and a conclusion was made not to do so, results of testing can be put on the SME Server QA page in the wiki and any abnormalities you observe should be directed to the bugtracker.

I believe your subscription was canceled because the paypal account has changed, and your subscription probably pointed to the old account. Simply re-subscribe using the new paypal link that can be found at http://wiki.contribs.org/Donate .

Please don't make assumptions without knowing what is going on.  We are investigating what happened to see why the subscription was canceled.

Shad,
I assume you will report back to this thread once you investigate and find out why the subscription was canceled.

+1
I know that I would test or try out or even participate in forums I have very little use for the bug tracker and all the people that jump up and down and scream about using the bug tracker all the time get mighty annoying.

...I have very little use for the bug tracker...
You might think about it that way, but as the developers do use it extensively and think it is far more suited than the forums for bug tracking you might consider compllying as in the end it has use for you as bugs that get reported there will be looked at and most likely resolved at any point in time, whereas in the forums they might get mentioned, most likely overlooked and certainly not fixed.

Rody

Without the bug tracker you would not have a sme 7.4, or earlier 7.x releases. You would also not be getting regular fixes and updates.

So it appears you do have a use for the bugtracker after all !

Why all the angst about the supposed difficulty using & hesitation in using the bugtracker ?
If you can use the forums and are capable of installing sme server, then I'm sure you are capable of opening a bugzilla account and posting bugs !
It's no more difficult (or easy) to use bugzilla than it is to use the forums.

contribs.org policy is to request people to report problems to bugzilla, it would be good if users did just that, rather than complaining about it.

How do policies get set?

How do policies get set?

The people who write the code and fix the bugs choose the tools that help them get the job done the best.

As a followup, I re-enlisted my contribution. Hopefully they we find what went wrong and prevent a future occurance. My continued support is the least I can do for all the efforts that those here supply.

Keep up the good work. I do hope to see the topic of donations reoccurring more often in the forums in the future. I know there are people like me out there that need to be hit in the head three or four times with a 2X4 before seeing the light (or stars) and do the right thing.
