Could somebody explain the [^] symbol at the end of a path/filename field means and how to use it?
I have searched the help and man files also searched on the web but can't find any reference to it,
Thanks

Did you already try to move your mouse there and click on it? It will show you your command history (of commands executed on the mc shell).

My mouse seems to be inoperable on my SME 7.4 server. Not even a pointer.

Bummer... but you can also use the functionality by using Alt+H.

Thanks Cactus, the Alt+H sequence works and gives me a dropdown list.
However, you have got me thinking about mouse support on the SME server. I have user the SME servers for some years but have never seen mouse support. Am I missing something?
Cheers,
Alex

Not sure about that, perhpas it is not supported, but most likely your mouse is not recognised.
I regularly connect to serves using PuTTy (SSH) and when I then start mc (or every other program) on whatever linux server I can use my mouse to navigate in the SSH session.

You just need to yum install gpm and it will most likely recognize a PS2-mouse on /etc/init.d/gpm start (not sure about USB). You'll get a cursor on the console then. I used to have a mouse connected to my old SME-server but didn't connect it again when switching machines because I rarely ever sit in front of it, I just use ssh.
