Tried to run USB backup on SME 7.3
Constantly getting message "backup returned non-zero"
Not sure what this means, except the backup file seems to be corrupted
Should I update to 7.4, if so how do I backup first.

For starters look here
http://wiki.contribs.org/Category:Howto
and read the article on USBDisks

Just in case, are you sure the USB device is large enough for your backup?

The backup usually gets to about 60% the gives the error message. The backup file is about 4gb and the USBHDD I'm using is 80gb. When trying to view the file it comes up as corrupt. Read the USB article and will try different USB case. Have tired a couple different drives but always in the same case.

What file format type on your USB device? FAT32 only allows files to 4gb.

I believe the format type might be the problem. I'm a newbie to this so I didn't read the howto properly. Will try to format the disk with ext3

Formatting to ext2 solved the problem
Thanks for the help
