Title: Hardware hanging...
Post by: billturnbull on November 06, 2009, 12:00:21 AM
Hey,

I have an installation of SME 7.4 that hangs when initializing hardware...

Not every time though, and usually switch off and on a few times gets it going again...

I imagine there are logs that I can check out to see where it is actually stopping but I have no idea where...

It gets to:
Initializing hardware... storage network audio
then stops, so is it stopping on audio or the next step?

Can anyone give me any clues where to look?

Thanks,
Bill

hi

I would suggest you to disable all unecessary hw from bios.. do you really need audio on your SME? :-)

Yeah, I tried that, but I can only disable the MIDI/Joy port not the whole audio card... :(

Try google - search for "hang Initializing hardware... storage network audio"

If the audio card is functional "most of the time", try reseating the card in the slot.

Probably your audio card is on board type, and yes, you should be able to disable by bios, double chek it @ "integrated peripherals" section of your bios.
Disabling everything not only reduces hardware conflicts but also saves system resources and as a server you only need two NICs and parallel/usb ports if youre using printing service like cups.
hope this helps
