Hi All
Im having issues with qmail and pastel partner 09. Everytime the users send invoices to a customer from pastel outlook express pops up with a message that the SMTP server was unable to send the message because the attachment is too big.
I already set the max message size of clamav and everything else to 15M but its still giving issues.
Please help?

outlook express' errot messages are
seldom very often wrong.. take a look at logs (qmail/clamd) for the reason of failure
-
Ok Stefano where exactly on the SME server do I find the qmail/clamd directory?
Thian
-
you can use the 'view log files' panel in server-manager
-
Hi Stefano
The following files are in the /var/log/clamd directory. Which file would contain the results of the error?
@400000004af7adc50d62912c.u @400000004af8210b13bb818c.u current
@400000004af81a4a376c06c4.u @400000004af8250613f759dc.u lock
@400000004af81e313361212c.u @400000004af97b3f1d584694.u state

Im having issues with qmail and pastel partner 09.
I doubt your issue has anything to do with qmail. If the SMTP server (qpsmtpd) does not accept the message, the message never gets to qmail.
Everytime the users send invoices to a customer from pastel outlook express pops up with a message that the SMTP server was unable to send the message because the attachment is too big.
Exactly what is the text of the message?
I already set the max message size of clamav and everything else to 15M but its still giving issues.
What is "everything else"?
Look in your qpsmtpd log file.
-
i had the same problem, one solution was changed to thunderbird, and the other was bypass the sme smtp and used the isp smtp settings for express or thunderbird.
Or even more radical and the best option remove pastel and change to OMNI accounts
-
Even though OE is reporting that the attachment is too big - maybe it might be related to this:
http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:FAQ#I_can.27t_receive.2Fsend_email_from_my_application_.28ACT.21.2C_vTiger.2C_MS_Outlook.2C_etc.29
Might be worth trying.

I disagree.. in my experience OE's error messages are wrong and, seldom, people doesn't read them till the end..
in any case, the best thing to do to help developers to make SME a better product is to open a bug in bugzilla with all relevant infos..

Really?

no.. I wrote that post this morning before drinking my pint of coffee :)

Hi All
These are some of the commands that I entered into the server yesterday:
config setprop qmail MaxMessageSize 15M
config setprop clamav MaxFileSize 15M
config setprop qpsmtpd MaxScannerSize 15M
config setprop php UploadMaxFilesize 15M
But the users still got errors from Outlook express when they send invoices from pastel.
Regards
Thian
-
did you reconfigure your server after you entered those commands?
please, post the exact error outlook express gives you
-
thianb
Did you follow those commands with
signal-event email-update
or probably better to include everything
signal-event post-upgrade
signal-event reboot
What actual attachment size are you trying to send that is not successful ?
The complete message from OE is required to diagnose correctly.

Hi All
Now if I send an email to any user Outlook Express comes up with the following error message:
The message could not be sent because its size exceeded the server's limit. You can use the option, located in Tools | Accounts | Properties | Advanced, to break messages into smaller parts. Subject 'TEST', Account: '192.168.0.1', Server: '192.168.0.1', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '552 Message too big!', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 552, Error Number: 0x800CCC6D
Please HELP??
Thian
-
This should help.
config setprop qmail MaxMessageSize 15000000
signal-event email-update
If you still have a problem, it might help if you do what OE is telling you to do:
You can use the option, located in Tools | Accounts | Properties | Advanced, to break messages into smaller parts.

Thanx CharlieBrady
That worked. Will send an invoice from pastel to myself and hopfully that works as well.
Regards
Thian

Thian, just a question: how big is the invoice attach?
-
Thian, just a question: how big is the invoice attach?
My guess is "more than 15 bytes". Using "15M" would have caused quite severe mail disruption.

I'll send you my invoice too :-)

Lol thanx Charlie
I received the invoice on our local mail. Will try to send exterally as well.

indeed, Charlie, but as far I understand Thian changed db values after OE error..

Your invoice to the SME community must be quite a substantial one by now.

Hi All
Pastel is still giving me issues. Will send the error message sortly.

Thian, please read carefully the FAQ: there you can find the solution

The clue is
Mail with no Date header not accepted here
and the workaround answer is here
http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:FAQ#I_can.27t_receive.2Fsend_email_from_my_application_.28ACT.21.2C_vTiger.2C_MS_Outlook.2C_etc.29
Thian, you should really spend some few hours reading all the FAQs and documentation (including Howtos) as you will become familiar with a whole lot of issues that may occur on your system, most of which have answers already published.
This saves the time of people who help out here, and they can spend that time resolving questions that do not yet have answers.
-
The message could not be sent because its size exceeded the server's limit.
OE lied to you. You should complain to the manufacturer. That software should not make up error messages which have no basis in fact.

ROTFLOL... complain to Microsoft... and then what? :-)
-
OE lied to you. You should complain to the manufacturer.
You should also complain to the manufacturer of the Pastel software - it is sending email messages which have an invallid format. The Date: header has always been mandatory, at least since RFC 822, which is dated August 1982. See section A.3.1 in http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc822.html (http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc822.html).
