While booting up after install I see an error message go by...........
R8169 eth0 device does not seem to be present.
This computer is an MSI Wind 100 nettop with a Realtek RLT8111C LAN controller.
I know all the hardware is working because I have been able to install other programs, including Clarlkconnect.

Generally speaking support for Realtek NICs is limited and some models are simply not supported at all. See various forums post that discuss this.
Your best test to prove compatibility is to install Centos 4.7 (which sme 7.4 is based on).
If the NIC does not work/is not supported then it will not work in sme either.
Conversely if the NIC does work in Centos then it should also work in sme.

As Mary has already stated Gigabit Realtek chips aren't supported.
Normally you can get a 8169 chip working, although performance does vary from one to the next.
I haven't tried a 8111 chip, although I would suspect getting it working would be highly unlikely.
It pays to check the hcl beforehand to see which nics are compatible. I've found performance wise it pays to stick to the Intel based chips.

All your replies are right. So I tried installing SME Server 8.0 Beta4. That works fine and I know it uses a later version of CentOS that obviously supports this chip. I guess Clarkconnect must already use the newer OS.
I haven't used linux for a while but this just reminds me of what I learned a few years ago. Don't use it on new hardware and if you get it working, expect issues if you upgrade your hardware.
