Title: [Solved] Configuring & Restoring Backup, "could not find target server"
Post by: LANMonkey on December 12, 2009, 09:48:00 PM
I am still trying to restore a system after a failed hard drive.  I have installed the new hard drive, installed SME 7.3, updated to SME 7.4.  I am trying to duplicate the settings that work in a neighbor SME system on the same subnet.  That system's backup settings work fine, but the identical settings in the new system return the error:

Quote
Unable to mount workstation shared folder mount error: could not find target server. TCP name 192.168.XXX.XXX /MyUser not found No ip address specified and hostname not found

The backup to the failed system is on a Windows Home Server where the neighboring system easily performs regular backups.

What does the error mean and how can I get my new system to access the backup for the old system?

Here is what the problem was.  There was a trailing space behind the server address.  Really?  Yes, really.  Why isn't there code in there to strip trailing spaces from input?

Problem solved.
