Title: Can't access Homepage on Server
Post by: pwgsc1 on December 18, 2009, 12:50:30 AM
Hi Folks,

Have had some issues with my Server over the last month  and I hope you can help me recover from this new problem.    I'm posting here because I think it had more to do with a rights issue then with any of my contribs, I stand to be corrected.  :-)

I had a problem where I had changed some rights on files in hopes of getting ImagicMagicK working in Gallery 2., Cactus was kind enough to help me with that problem.   Link:  http://forums.contribs.org/index.php/topic,45251.0.html

But i think by fixing this problem I have created another, I can no longer access my homepage.  The DNS is updating OK but if I try to access the website it times out.  If I try to access it via the Intranet I get this message:

--------------------
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access / on this server.
--------------------------------

Using the sme7admin contrib I did the "Test Http Service" test and it came back with this:

----------------
Execution of 'http@' (should return html source code of server's homepage):

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">
<html><head>
<title>403 Forbidden</title>
</head><body>
<h1>Forbidden</h1>
<p>You don't have permission to access /
on this server.</p>
</body></html>
--------------------------------

There's always a gotcha and mine is that I have Dungog's Joomla web app contrib installed.   So my website is  www.craigbursey.ca/joomla/index.php

Here is the rights of a few files in this directory:
-----------------------
drwxr-xr-x  10 root root  4096 Jan 11  2007 includes
-rw-r--r--   1 root root  4836 Jun 25  2006 index2.php
-rw-r--r--   1 root root  7210 Jun 25  2006 index.php
-----------------------

any help would be appreciated.

Craig

Look through your logfiles for clues, specifically in /var/log/httpd/error_log.

Thanks cactus,

I'll have a look when I get home.   I think it's more then just Http.  I just tried to ssh in and couldn't get a response.

here's an excerpt from the error log.

------------------------------
Dec 17 19:47:09 2009] [notice] Digest: generating secret for digest authentication ...
[Thu Dec 17 19:47:09 2009] [notice] Digest: done
[Thu Dec 17 19:47:10 2009] [warn] RSA server certificate CommonName (CN) `smehome.craigbursey.ca' does NOT match server name!?
[Thu Dec 17 19:47:10 2009] [notice] Apache configured -- resuming normal operations
[Thu Dec 17 19:48:52 2009] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] client denied by server configuration: /opt/joomlaindex.htm
[Thu Dec 17 19:48:52 2009] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] client denied by server configuration: /opt/joomlaindex.html
[Thu Dec 17 19:48:52 2009] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] client denied by server configuration: /opt/joomlaindex.shtml
[Thu Dec 17 19:48:52 2009] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] client denied by server configuration: /opt/joomlaindex.cgi
----------------------------

Not sure about the server certificate, I haven't changed anything to do with that.  The rest looks like it could be a permissions error?

i think it has to do with above as it seems there is a slash missing after /opt/joomla. I think you somehow made an error configuring joomla. I suggest you revert the changes you made for this and then see if your system returns to normal again. And then try again.

I had a look at the /opt/joomla  directory and everything looks ok.  I can't really undo what I did or not sure how to do it is more like it.  if you look at the commands, I'm not sure how to backtrack.

------------------------
rpm --setugids $(rpm -qa)
rpm --setperms $(rpm -qa)
signal-event post-upgrade ; signal-event reboot
----------------------------

I did come across this bug posting that talks about the 'httpd' is not a valid service name, referer:  error.   It's an older link but it describes what's happening to me.

Thanks,

I meant to revert the changes you made for joomla, as that fr sure is not as it should be judging from the error messages.

Hey Cactus,

Sorry about the confusion,  I didn't make any changes to Joomla.    It's more then HTTP, I can no long SSH or FTP into the Server from the Internet.

Thanks,

Craig

Could this be a clue?  Got an e-mail from the Server with this message...

/bin/bash: /usr/sbin/durep.daily: Permission denied

I originally had my website in the Primary ibay, just a combo of basic htm files.. When I went to Joomla I setup the index.htm in Primary to redirect to /opt/joomla.

So as a test to get my homepage back up and running I restored the original index.htm to get my "old" website back up and running. But after doing this I still get the:

------------------
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access / on this server.
---------------------

So I guess it's fair to say it's not Joomla or maybe not even the Primary ibay but maybe something to do with HTTP???

OK here's the latest update before i go to bed.

I cannot access my homepage either via the Inter or Intra net
I cannot access the server-manager via the local IP
I cannot access web apps  in the /opt directory like phpmyadmin and phpsysinfo

I can access Gallery which is in an ibay by both Intra and Inter net.

Thanks,

Craig
