Title: SME Server on a PC with an Atom processor
Post by: peterhocking on December 21, 2009, 04:51:25 AM
My SME server is now only used for hosting 2 web sites, (less that 1000 hits per month total) & as a mail server, (less than 12,000 incoming emails per month) & runs the Unjunkmgr, System monitor & Awstats contribs.

The hardware it's running on is old & noisy, so I'm thinking of replacing with a PC using an Atom CPU & a couple of laptop hard drives.

Do you think that this hardware would be up to it or am I under speccing?

TIA

Peter

I am running a backup server with a INTEL D945GCLF2 (dual atom) board.

It is running affa (2 hosts every night via openvpn). There are no users from web, but navigating in the server-manager seems fine.

Furthermore I have mythtv installed with a dual tuner card (only as backend). Everything is running fine.

The only problem with the board is the lack of driver support for the network card. I've had to compile it (I'm using dkms packages).

Hope it helps
